Anual Breed Show August 27th 2007
Three mares achieved the highly sought after
title of Elite at this years British Hanoverian Horse Show.
In the Performance test Alison Reddy rode her own Chanel
D by Chasseur I scoring 9.5 for jumping ability and 8.5 for
ride ability with the test rider. The very beautiful High
Society by Harvard owned by Mrs Hargreaves exhibited top
class dressage potential and scored 9 from the test rider
Lesley Peyton-Gilbert. Donata by Der Lord owned by Mrs Golding
also showed dressage paces and style jumping. Dr Ludwig Christman
and Lynne Crowden commented on the quality of the mares forward
with the latest bloodlines showing breeders ably keeping
up with the German parent society.
More mares were presented for Studbook inspection this year
as the rules have changed to allow mares from other studbooks
to be presented, they have to average a 7 to get into the
main studbook and we saw mares from Hessen, Oldenburg, Trakehner
and thoroughbred accepted. These mares will need to be covered
by a foal branded Hanoverian Stallion.
The show classes saw some real quality with Fleetwood Mac
by Furstenreich owned by Sandy Senior winning the colt foal
class. Dr Christman thought the fillies were the best he
had seen with Dancing Queen by Don Frederico owned by Sara
Williams really living up to her name taking the filly foal
and overall foal championship. The mare classes had some
really impressive movers with two of Sara Williams’s
mares St Pr Donata K by Donnerhall showing wonderful rhythm
and power in her trot, winning the 6 to 9 year old class.
The mother of the champion foal St Pr Angelina by Admiral
II won the 10 years old and over class and went on to take
the Mare Championship.
The new venue of Moulton College worked out well with the
huge indoor arena split into two with good viewing and seating.
The stables were new and top class positioned next door to
the arena and the College staff helped tirelessly all day.
We need to make the jumping area smaller so we don’t
waste time catching horses after they run free. The working
in was quite far away if we use the top door so may need
to swap the rings around.
This year the Regional Brandings were very close to the main
show, some foals that qualified at regional’s did not
enter but just turned up expecting stables and to show. This
caused us problems with too many in some groups. So next
year when you qualify a foal you will be given an entry form
and you need to enter. WE WILL NOT TAKE LATE ENTRYS. They
make the show run late and a large group of foals in the
arena is not safe.
If any members have any helpful comments how we can improve
the show please let us know.
2007 Show Results will be on Results page soon.

Lost horse passports
An interesting point has come to light regarding applying
for replacement passports. Clearly only the person who
was the owner at the time the passport was lost can apply
for a replacement. If any one could apply this leaves the
whole thing open to fraud. This effects people who have
bought branded Hanoverians where the previous owners have "lost " the
papers. Do not hand over money until the issue of lost
papers is resolved. In German law the owner of the horse
is the person who has the papers not the person who has
the horse. Many German Societies will require the person
who lost the passport to swear in front of a Notary the
circumstances of loss and will not issue replacements with
out this statement. This leads to problems for people who
have bought horses which have been issued with passports
by an E.U recognized breed society who will not issue replacements.
Sue Mealy at DEFRA says it is up to the German Issuing
Society to sort out.
Horse passports
All horse owners must have applied for a passport by the
end of this year. The society will bind an existing pedigree
certificate with a flu/vac certificate
for £25 inc. p&p recorded delivery. Members with BHD passports can
have them replaced and upgraded to the new requirements for £25. For non
members we wish to remind you that we only issue documents for the progeny of
stallions licensed to stand for the German Hanoverian Verband and its daughter
societies we do not issue papers to unlicensed stallions in any form. There will
be a charge for the issue of replacement passports that will be about £50
excluding an extra costs for DNA to prove identity. Do not pay for a horse until
the passport is handed over as this will be a requirement of the new legislation.
Remember the passport belongs to the studbook that issued it not the owner of
the horse. The requirement for the passport has been amended slightly in that
you will need a passport to travel a horse to competitions in the UK by February
2005 but must have applied by June this year. It seems the Order is specific
about when a horse needs a passport and DEFRA will be on thin ice if it makes
statements about when a horse needs its passport that do not follow the legislation
closely. If it had said that a horse must be accompanied by its passport in its
movement, this would be clear and to exempt hacking or hunting ect but to say
you cannot use a horse for competition or breeding that does not have a passport
might not mean the same thing.
Overstamping
Members will have read in the Young Horse Evaluation classes
and British Dressage young horse classes a reference to the
overstamping by a British Breed Society of imported horse.
As far as Hannoverian imports are concerned we do not have
to overstamp as such, as long as members notify us of the
change of ownership and we then enter that in our records,
that will suffice. There is no charge.
